Jones collaborates with the principal environmental justice organizations
and coalitions in New York City, such as West Harlem Environmental
Action. Involved in many New York City-based environmental initiatives
including the development of the
Hudson River Greenway, the
revitalization of Governor's Island
and the fight for the waterfronts of
Brooklyn and Queens, Jones's
principal contribution to the City's
environment was the successful
seven-year campaign for a state law
to clean up brownfields,
already-polluted sites located in
urban areas. The 2003 Brownfields
Law provides for clean up and
development of hundreds of dirty
sites that can now be put to
productive and community use.
Other New York City-based
initiatives Jones organized for
include Time Out from Testing, a
City-led coalition of opponents to
high-stakes testing in the state's
public schools.
